Colin MacLeod, el escoces inmortal de las tierras altas, viaja con el sabio fantasma Amergan en busqueda del despota inmortal Marcus Octavius, quien asesino a la novia de Colin en las planicies Celticas siglos antes. La que una vez fuera la grandiosa ciudad de New york se encuentra ahora sumergida bajo el agua, con solo una fortaleza dominando erigiendose sobre el mar, la fortaleza de Marcus Octavius. MacLeod debe decidir entre salvar a los sobrevivientes de New York o cazar a su nemesis.

Colin MacLeod, the immortal Scottish Highlander, travels with the wise-cracking ghost Amergan in search of the immortal despot Marcus Octavius, who killed Colin’s lover on the Celtic plains centuries earlier. The once great city of New York is now submerged under water, with only one dominant fortress towering over the sea, the fortress of Marcus Octavius. MacLeod is torn between saving the survivors of New York and hunting down his nemesis.
Directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, director of X the movie, X the TV series and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Every release of this film until now has been heavily cut against the will of director Kawajiri.
The relevant part:
“As far as the story goes, the biggest issues came at the end. Kawajiri had a director’s cut that is much longer than the original film we’re putting out. It wasn’t so obvious in certain issues. When you see the director’s version compared to the US version, we have opening monolog cards that come up to start the story, telling you what’s going on, giving some background. There’s some narration in the beginning. They don’t have that in the Japanese version. There’s about seven or eight additional scenes in the Japanese version that we cut out in the US one, just for timing, and just for pace of story. That was the big issue. I’m sure Mr Kawajiri was really unhappy about the cut, but this was what the other producers thought was best for everybody.”
The R1 DVD runs 1:25:24 minutes. This director’s cut clocks in at 1:36:43. Draw your own conclusions.
